3 Common Sexual Problems in Women

Oftentimes, sexual dysfunction is thought to be a male problem. Female dysfunction is often overlook amidst the myriad pills, creams, pumps, and patches for men. There are three main types of female sexual dysfunction that can make enjoying a healthy sexual relationship difficult.

  1. Painful Sex

Painful sex is much more common than most women believe. Women who suffer from vaginal pain often think their problem is unique and that they are alone. Not at all. According to an article published in Psychology Today, pain during sexual intercourse occurs in 1 of 3 women!

Painful sex is often caused by:

    • Tilted Uterus

Many women are unaware that they have a retroverted or tipped uterus or that this is the cause of their pain during sex. Women with a tipped uterus often find the woman-on-top or rear entry positions most comfortable.

    • Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is just a fancy medical term for vulvar pain. It can be caused by bacterial vaginosis, a pH imbalance, high oxalates in the body, chronic candida infection or as a result of sexual trauma.

    • Urinary Tract Infections

Frequent urinary tract infections can cause pain during sex because of swelling and inflammation of the urethra.

    • Chronic Yeast Infections

Chronic yeast infections affect millions of women and are a common cause of pain during sex. Over-the-counter anti-fungal creams only make things worse. If you’re experiencing frequent yeast infections, cut sugar and processed food from your diet and load up on apple cider vinegar (with the mother), garlic, onion, oregano, and cayenne pepper. They’re all potent yeast killers that can cure the infection from inside out.

    • Vaginismus

Vaginismus occurs when the pubococcygeus (PC) muscle contracts involuntarily whenever penetration is attempted. This can cause severe pain during sex or even the impossibility of sex. Many women with vaginismus have difficulty even inserting a tampon or getting a pelvic exam.

There are two types of vaginismus: Primary and secondary. A woman with primary vaginismus experiences these muscle contractions the first time she ever tries to use a tampon, have a pelvic exam or engage in sexual activity. In secondary vaginismus, a woman has been able to have successful sexual intercourse in the past but is unable to now.

Common causes of vaginismus are vulvodynia, chronic candida infection, urinary tract infections, sexual trauma, and fear of pain during sex. Women with these conditions are often treated with a combination of psychotherapy, physical therapy, and anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication. However, there are alternatives. A woman can use a set of vaginal dilators and masturbatory techniques to treat this condition at home.

  1. Lack of Sexual Satisfaction

If you don’t enjoy sex the way you think you should, there are plenty of women in the same boat…or bed with you. Lack of sexual satisfaction can have several causes.

You may feel too embarrassed to ask for what you need in bed and just settle for mediocre sex. Your significant other may lack the experience or understanding of how to please you. It could be a communication issue. Feelings of guilt or self-consciousness during sex are other contributors to lack of sexual satisfaction.

Pain during sexual intercourse and vaginal dryness are other typical causes for less-than-enjoyable sex.

If you’re currently in a loving relationship but don’t experience the enjoyment you’d like during sex, there are a few things you and your partner can try.

If rushed sex is a common cause of so-so sex in your relationship, try scheduling sex and get a lock for the bedroom door. This is imperative for couples with children. You don’t have to leave the door locked during the night but in order to enjoy uninterrupted alone time together, it’s one of the best investments you can make.

Also, communicate with your partner. Tell him what you need, what you fantasize about, and what you’d love for him to do in the bedroom. If you feel you can’t say it out loud, write it down and slip into his pocket, lunch-bag or briefcase. Tell him you had a sexy dream about him and incorporate your forbidden fantasies. This way, it won’t feel so much as though you’re giving him “instructions”.

Furthermore, you might want to try a little experimentation. Sex toys and adult videos don’t have to be thought of as sleazy. Among committed couples, they can really add some spice into your sex life.

  1. Loss of Libido

Loss of libido can be caused by stress, hormone fluctuations, menopause, poor diet, depression, as well as chronic illness and pain conditions. If you’re a woman who can barely remember the last time you and your significant other had a good shag, you’ve got plenty of company.

Thankfully, there are plenty of sexual enhancement products for women to treat this common type of female sexual dysfunction. Natural female enhancement supplements can easily take the place of estrogen replacement therapy because they don’t cause dangerous side effects.

No matter what sexual health problems you may be facing, there are always ways to treat them. If home remedies aren’t working to treat your condition, make an appointment with a natural health practitioner who may be able to give you a new perspective on how to improve your sex life.
