Easy Fitness Tips for Men

1.     Start Slowly
One of the best fitness tips a guy can get is to start slowly. If you’re the kind of man who, once he decides something, goes for broke, your fitness shouldn’t be a part of that. While your desire to hit the gym and lift, run, swim, and play racquet ball until you pass out is commendable, it’s not practical.
If it’s been a while since you’ve worked out, start slowly. Go out for a walk, take a hike, do some crunches, or start lifting with ten or twenty pound weights. You don’t want to overdue it or you’ll overwork your muscles and may cause yourself serious injury.
2.     Get Committed
Another good tip to improve men’s fitness is to get committed. Make a plan to work out at a certain time every day and stick with it. Write down a list of goals. Do you want a flatter stomach? More toned arms? Really focus on the look and feel you’re going for and get committed do doing something each day to reach those goals.
3.     Switch it Up
A lot of men give up on their fitness goals because they either get injured or get bored. Not every man wants to go to the gym to get fit. You may be the type of guy who prefers being outdoors kayaking, hiking, or bicycling.
Make it a point to try a new physical fitness activity at least once every couple of months. Try a marital arts class or take up yoga. The more interested you are in your workout routine, the more likely you’ll be to stick with it.
4.     Go to the Core
One of the most common exercise mistakes men make is focusing so hard on their arms and legs, they forget their core. A strong core is the key to your fitness so it’s important to work on it regularly. For best results, do your stomach and back exercises at the beginning of your workout, so you’re not tempted to neglect them.
5.     Balance the Weights
Of all the fitness tips out there for men, one of the most critical is remembering to balance the way you use weights. If every day is upper body day, you’re going to end up looking ridiculous. To avoid this, work your arms on Monday, your legs on Tuesday, your arms on Wednesday, your legs on Thursday, and your arms and legs on Friday. Do light cardio on the weekdays and save your major cardio workouts for the weekends.
6.     Spring Ahead
If you’re like most guys, you made a New Year’s Resolution to get in shape. Unfortunately, the thought of getting up early and going for a run or hitting the gym on a dark cold morning just makes you want to roll over and go back to sleep. When the weather gets warmer, get outside and get active. It will be a lot easier to stick with a workout if it’s fun.
7.     Start with Protein
Protein is critical to muscle building and muscle repair. Before you get active, have some string cheese, an egg, a protein bar or an energy shake. Working out on an empty stomach will only make you feel weak and shaky so power up beforehand.
8.     Stay Positive
You are what you think so if you think you can’t do it, you won’t be able to. The key to men’s fitness is staying positive and going the distance. Each time you wake up in the morning, silently tell yourself you’re getting faster, stronger, and better. Make note of the positive changes you see in the mirror and forgive yourself when you decide to sleep in or give in to fast food temptation. You can always start over again on a more positive note the next day.
9.     Just Five Minutes
No time to do a full workout? Just five minutes of core strengthening, push-ups or jump rope gets your heart going and keeps you in the mindset of getting physical every day.
10.    Ditch the Junk
The cornerstone of men’s fitness is a healthy diet. You could work out until you drop but if you eat junk food, you’re not going to get the results you want and you actually could drop…of a heart attack.
Get serious about your fitness and clean up your diet. Eat plenty of protein, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and healthy fat to power up your workouts and give you the healthy fuel you need to succeed.
