happydudeMen’s health is a very important topic. Millions of men don’t really think about their health until something goes wrong. If you want to be a healthy man and a better man, you’ve got to think prevention.
10 Ways to Improve Men’s Health
1.     Eat Healthy
A healthy diet is the cornerstone of men’s health. If your diet consists mostly of processed food, you’re setting yourself up for serious diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The easiest way to improve your health through diet is to start reading food labels. Much of the stuff you eat every day contains a bunch of chemicals and additives that have serious health risks associated with them.
A whole food diet consists of foods like organic vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, legumes, meat, poultry, fish, coconut oil, butter, yogurt, and green tea. The more healthy food you stock up on, the healthier you’ll eat. A man is only as healthy as the food he puts into his body.
2.     Get Exercise
A sedentary lifestyle is a silent killer. A healthy man is one who gets out and exercises regularly. You don’t have to hit the gym. Go for a walk, a hike, a bike ride or take a yoga class. Don’t scoff. Studies have shown yoga not only improves your physical health but can also improve your sex life as well! Just thirty minutes of exercise 3-5 days per week can help stave off chronic disease and inflammation. Plus, when you exercise outdoors, you get a healthy dose of immune-boosting vitamin D!
3.     Quit Smoking
Do you smoke? If so, you’re setting yourself up for lung cancer. Sorry to be blunt, but if you want some incentive to quit smoking, check out this gross picture of smoke-ravaged lungs. Not pretty is it? It isn’t easy to quit smoking as any man who has kicked the habit will tell you but it’s important to take the time and make the effort to do so. When you smoke, you not only increase your risk of developing lung cancer, you run the risk of developing heart disease, COPD, high blood pressure, and erectile dysfunction as well.
4.     De-Stress
If you want to be a healthy man, you need to get your stress under control. Men who have continually high stress levels have an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, anxiety disorders, and depression. A good work ethic is an admirable quality but not at the expense of your life. Make sure you take time for yourself. Take up a hobby, read a book, go for a hike, and play with your pets or children. Making the time to relax is a real investment in your health.
5.     Sleep More
Studies have shown sleep-deprived men have more difficulty losing weight. Lack of sleep also increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, depression, anxiety, erectile dysfunction, and violent outbursts. Most men need at least 7-8 hours of uninterrupted rest each night. If you struggle with insomnia, try adding a magnesium supplement to your diet. Magnesium deficiency is quite common, especially in the case of a poor diet.
6.     Manage Anger
Men with anger management problems have difficulty in their personal and professional life. Women are not comfortable dating explosive men for long periods of time and angry men often get passed over for promotions.
Not to mention the physical toll that chronic anger takes on your health. The key to getting your anger under control is figuring out what’s causing it in the first place.
Think about what triggers you and what causes your blood to boil. Once you discover what’s causing the problem, you’ll be that much closer to solving it.
7.     Prevent Injury
Physical injury is a common threat to men’s health. Something as simple as getting up on a ladder to clean out your gutters can turn into a life-changing experience if you fall. The key to staying healthy is avoiding injury in the first place. Before you rush into a project, take the time to evaluate the situation first. Did you shut the power off? Is your ladder in the right position? Did your son leave some toys on the stairs? Being vigilant can save your life. Measure twice, cut once. It’s not just an old carpenter saying, it’s a way of life.
8.     Drink Less
Even the healthiest man can have a problem with drinking and not ever realize it. To improve your health, it’s important to understand if alcohol dependency is affecting to your life. Do you wake up in the morning with a need to drink alcohol? Do you base your social events on drinking? If you do have a problem, there is always help available and remember, a strong man is one who admits who needs help. It’s a weak man who walks away from it to order another drink.

9.     Have Sex
Studies have shown that men who have more sex lead happier, more fulfilling lives. If erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation is a problem for you, there are plenty of natural male enhancement products out there to help you.
10.    Be Generous
Studies have shown that men’s health can be improved by generosity. Giving of yourself decreases the stress hormone, cortisol, which helps improve your overall quality of life. Generosity helps lower blood pressure while improving overall feelings of health and well-being. When you give, you receive.
A healthy man is a better man because he is better able to contribute to society and enjoy life. Don’t wait for something to go wrong with your health to start doing something about it. Be proactive and take care of yourself every day. The effort will be well worth it for both you and those you care about.
