If you’re one of millions of balding men checking yourself out in the mirror and wondering where you hair went, you’ve come to the right article. Hair falls out at different rates for different guys. If you’re losing hair, check out these top 10 reasons men lose their hair so you can take steps to regain it!

Top 10 Reasons Men Lose Their Hair
1.      Low Testosterone
Hair loss caused by low testosterone is called androgenic alopecia. In this type of hair loss, men find themselves going bald first at the temples and then at the back. androgenic alopecia is caused by high levels of the male hormone, androgen, which can contribute to a high DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels. These high levels can inhibit normal hair growth and lead to a steady thinning of hair.
2.      Heredity
The old-fashioned theory is a young man can tell if he will end up going bald by looking at his paternal grandfather. If his mother’s father is bald, he will end up losing hair. If not, he’s safe. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, this has turned out to be nothing more than an “old wives tale”. The genes for male pattern baldness are not transmitted via the X or Y chromosome, as originally believed. Rather, the genes are passed through a non-sex autosome, which can be contributed by either parent.
3.      Stress
Let’s face it, stress kills. As you probably know, there is a large connection between stress and high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. But did you also know balding men may be losing their hair because of stress? Hair loss induced by severe stress is called telogen effluvium. Metabolic or hormonal stress will produce a sudden onset of hair loss. Hair falls consistently from all over the head and may leave what looks like a dramatic part. The good news is telogen effluvium is reversible. It usually takes 6-12 months to regain hair after a major stressful event or illness.
4.      Aging
The normal life of a single strand of hair is 4-5 years. Balding men often notice hair falls more significantly beginning at age 30. As men age, their hair strands become thinner, finer, and less pigmented. Hair growth slows and some follicles stop producing hair altogether. Another downer? According to research, age-related hair loss is commonly worse in men who smoke.

5.      Gluten Intolerance
Balding men don’t think of looking through their cabinets or fridge to find a cause for their hair loss but it may benefit them to do so. A common food intolerance called gluten intolerance can cause men to lose their hair. It is estimated that 1 in every 100 people have gluten intolerance. People with this disorder cannot digest the protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. Symptoms include fatigue, chronic digestive disturbances, muscle aches, brain fog, anemia, and hair loss. If you have these symptoms and are also losing hair, cut gluten from your diet for one month to see if symptoms improve.
6.      Nutritional Deficiencies
Nutrition and diet play a crucial role in men’s hair loss. Nutritional deficiencies are most commonly caused by gluten intolerance and/or poor dietary choices. If you live on fast or processed food, chances are you’re not getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy. This can lead to premature hair loss. Balding men need to take stock of their other physical symptoms. How is your libido? Memory? Do you have energy to work out and stay fit or can you not wait to zone out in front of the TV every night? Changing your diet and eating more whole, nutritious food may be all you need to do to reverse your hair loss and stop going bald!
7.      Excessive Alcohol Consumption
You sitting down with a beer or after-dinner cocktail as you read this? That drink might be what’s causing you to go bald. According to research, men who consume large quantities of alcohol have higher levels of estrogen in their bodies and depleted levels of zinc. Though much more prevalent in women, estrogen is found in smaller amounts in men. However, excessive alcohol consumption greatly increases these estrogen levels, which can lead to hair loss, male breast development, and erectile dysfunction.
8.      Illness/Disease
Going bald doesn’t always have to do with age or testosterone levels. Hair loss can also be caused by disease or illness. Sometimes a fever caused by flu can cause hair to fall out. Also, undiagnosed thyroid and pituitary disorders may cause premature hair loss. In addition, fungal scalp infections, ringworm, and burns can trigger hair loss in men. If you’re losing hair and you don’t know why, talk with your doctor before trying any radical hair loss products. Serious health conditions, once treated, may cause hair loss to reverse itself naturally.
9.      Harsh Hair Care Products
Take a look at some of your favorite shampoo, conditioner, and hair care products. Chances are most of them have sulfates and parabens that can contribute to premature hair loss. If you’re losing hair, try switching to organic, natural hair care products and see if the condition improves.
10.    Nervous Condition (Trichotillomania)
Stress can make you lose hair in more ways than one. There is a psychological condition called trichotillomania. It’s an impulse-control disorder that causes the sufferer to pull or twist their hair until it comes out in clumps. Men who have this disorder are urged to seek professional help to deal with their hair loss.
Balding men don’t have to put up with constantly falling hair. There are plenty of natural ways to combat hair loss. If you’re going bald, do some more research, talk with your doctor, and get to the bottom of the situation. The more you know the more you are able to take control of your health (and looks)!
